Andy Murray Beaten By Federer In US Oope FinalRoger Federer has won his fifth successive US Open while ending Andy Murray’s hopes at Flushing Meadows. The world number 2 took the match 6-2 7-5 6-2 in spectacular style.

All eyes were on Andy Murray on Monday for his first Grand Slam final appearance, and his attempt to become the the first British man since 1936 to win one of the coveted major singles titles.

Murray was high in confidence, and spirits, after his semi-final win against world number 1 Rafael Nadal - his first ever win over the Wimbledon champion.

But, Roger Federer - who has had a tough year - controlled this final from start to finish, and was in riveting form throughout.

Federer himself had beaten world number 3 Novak Djokovic in the semis, and continued his good form in his meeting with Murray.

Despite making it to 2-2 in the first set - after fighting a break point in game 3 - Federer took charge of the set. He broke Murray, and then held his own serve with an outstanding volley on the run.

Yet more fantastic shots in game 7 led to Murray’s serve being broken a second time, leaving Federer 6-2 winner in just 26 minutes.

The momentum continued into the second set, with the Swiss number one quickly gaining a 2-0 lead. Murray, however, fought back and gained his first break of serve of the final, and levelled the set at two a piece.

The Scotsman then found himself at 0-40 on Federer’s serve, and the match looked as though it was going to be a classic. Federer, unfortunately, had other ideas as he continued with his attacking style to save three break points and take the game.

Federer was relentless, and seemed to have an answer for everything Murray had to throw at him. This constant pressure finally took it’s toll, as he broke serve in game 12 to take the set 7-5.

This deflated Murray, who had tried everything, and put everything into the second set. Federer, however, was going from strength to strength and gained a 5-0 lead in what seemed like minutes in set three.

Despite Murray’s best attempts to save the match, the damage was done. 6-2 the final score.

Murray has moved up to number 4 in the world rankings after his fantastic US Open, and he must now concentrate on the future. Although it’s a disappointment, Federer is a tough player to beat - especially in this form - and it’s no embarrassment to lose to such quality.

His time will come, and CLDsport can’t wait. Congratulations Andy, do not be disheartened……..
