Pietersen Named As England Captain Following Vaughan’s Resignation

Kevin Pietersen Confirmed as England CaptainKevin Pieterson has been confirmed as England captain following the surprise resignation of Michael Vaughan on Sunday.

Vaughan - England’s most successful test captain - announced his decision following England’s defeat to South Africa at Edgbaston, which resulted in them being 2-0 down in the series with just one match remaining.

England have won 26 tests out of 51 under Vaughan’s leadership (just under 51%) and is the highest win rate of any former captain. He famously led the team to Ashes victory in 2005 for the first time in 18 years. Read more

In what seems like the only pocket of the country not touched by the bank holiday rain, England sealed an unlikely win against New Zealand to lead the 3 match series 1-0 with a game to play. This was the 5th highest 4th innings total ever chased by England to win a test match, and the the highest ever at Old Trafford. How sad that this will be the last test match at the ground for some time after such a topsy-turvy, absorbing and unpredicatable game. With a match full interruptions due to rain and bad light - and surely heading for a draw - England failed to open up a good first innings lead, despite being 120-0 at one stage.
