Weekly Football Round-Up: 10th August 2008

August 10, 2008 by CLDsport

Welcome to this weeks Sunday round-up.

We are currently experiencing some rather frustrating technical issues, so please bear with us as we try and get the full summary up on the site!

Another busy week, at least with regards to rumours anyway. Also, we have seen the start of the Football League season - along with the first weekend in the Scottish league calendar.

First though, let’s discuss the weeks transfer rumours.

Weekly Football Rumours

Transfer deadline day is fast approaching, and clubs are desperately trying to finalise their squads before it’s too late.

The main news this week has seen the end of the ‘will he, won’t he’ saga surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. The Portuguese midfielder has finally revealed that he will remain at OId Trafford for ‘one more year’. Click Here For Our Report.

Tottenham have been in the news again, more specifically the possible deal with Zenit St Petersburg for Russian striker Andrei Arshavin. We have seen many conflicting reports this week, and it’s still an uncertain situation.

Spurs only have Berbatov (who may yet still move), and Bent as their main strikeforce, with no back-up. Surely Ramos will need at least one more forward player before transfer deadline - two if Berbatov does leave White Hart Lane.

As you can see above, Manchester United have won the FA Community Shield. Although the competition is worthless, it’s nice to see the traditional season opener. If nothing else, it’s a sure sign that the Premiership season is just around the corner - 6 days away in fact.

United won the ‘cup’ 3-1 on penalties after dominating Portsmouth in normal time. More details will be made available when we can.

One other result worth noting, is Tottenham’s demolition of Roma. Being a Spurs fan myself, I had to stick it in here somewhere! Despite the fact that Roma are approx 3 weeks behind us in pre-season, Spurs performed magnificently. David Bentley scored twice in his home debut, and Darren Bent also grabbed his 11th and 12th pre-season goals in just 6 appearances.

More will be added to this weeks summary when we can. Technical issues are preventing us from offering a full service - but rest assured we are working hard to get things up and running again! We have lots more to add - including news on Robinho, and Kaka - and much more.
