Tottenham Favourites to Sign Samuel Eto’o

Spurs Logo Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as favourites to sign Samuel Eto’o after making a £24million bid for the Barcelona striker.

Spurs are also reported to have offered the Cameroon international a whopping £107,000 per week (£5.5million a year). Chairman Daniel Levy is allegedly in Barcelona today to make an official offer to the club.

Although many players have been linked with Spurs in the last few months, this offer seems to be more widely reported, and serious. But, does this spell the end for Berbatov?

Samuel Eto'o Dimitar Berbatov has been the best player at White Hart Lane since he arrived from Bayer Leverkusen - but talk of his future has never stopped. Should the club be concentrating more on persuading him to stay than chasing other world class strikers? Or, is the move for Eto’o a move to prove the clubs ambitions to the Bulgarian hit man?

Whereas Eto’o - who scored in Barcelona’s 5-3 win at Murcia last night - would certainly get the Spurs fans excited, is it a necessary signing? It does seem an awful lot of money for a player that has not been performing to his full potential this season - although he has still managed 16 league goals. The reported salary is said to be a considerable improvement on his current Barcelona terms.

There is no doubting, however, of Eto’s talent. He is known as a prolific scorer, along with his play-making and defensive qualities. Eto’s is the all-time leading scorer in the African Cup of Nations with 16 and at 27 years of age he should be in his prime.
