Dos Santos For Tottenham and Other Transfer News
June 5, 2008 by CLDsport
Thursday 5th June 2008:
Well, it’s turning out to be a pretty intensive summer for transfer speculation - ALREADY! With the ‘is he staying or not’ Cristiano Ronaldo saga, it now appears likely that the Portuguese star will be on his way to Madrid after admitting that he’d like to join Real.
Giovani Dos Santos has been linked to Tottenham Hotspur many times in recent weeks, and now the player himself has said:
“Next season I will be playing for Tottenham,”
The Barcelona youngster also claimed that he turned down several other offers, including one from Man City, as he wanted to work with Spurs’ coach Juande Ramos.
The 19-year-old Mexican made his statement to reporters following his country’s 4-1 defeat to Argentina. Barcelona are reportedly happy to sell him for an initial sum of £4.7million, but could rise to almost £8million.
Two years ago, Dos Santos was one of Barcelona’s hottest prospects, but has recently been asking Barcelona for a pay rise and threatening to leave if he doesn’t get it. Barcelona, meanwhile, have refused to give in to the players demands - ensuring him that if his performances improve then so will his pay. With neither backing down, the player has decided to join Spurs.
Roque Santa Cruz
A few weeks back, we reported that Arsense Wenger was interested in signing Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz as a replacement for Adebayor. Today, however, the player himself has reported that Man Utd are interested in signing him. Either way it looks as though the Paraguay striker is set to follow Mark Hughes out of Ewood Park.
Alexander Hleb
Speaking of Arsenal, Alexander Hleb is on the verge of a move to Barcelona, despite preferring to join Inter. With the Milan club appointing Jose Mourinho has their new manager, Hleb is no longer a target for the club.
Vincenzo Morabito - Hleb’s representative said:
“I’m sorry that we won’t be able to take him to Italy, he liked Inter a lot but obviously Mourinho has made some different choices and has gone for some other names”.
His agent was quoted as saying:
“We have had talks with Barcelona but nothing has been signed”.
The Belarus international was reported to have held a secret meeting with Inter representatives in Milan following Arsenal’s Champions League meeting with the Scudetto winners - which angered Wenger, who threatened to report the club to FIFA.
The club paid just over £11million for the right-winger in 2005, and with one year left on his contract it looks as though the 27-year-old is set to leave the Gunners.
