Cristiano Ronaldo Fuels Speculation, But United Say He Is NOT Leaving
June 20, 2008
After Portugal’s Euro 2008 exit yesterday evening, the media attention has focused directly on Cristiano Ronaldo, and his future.
If reports in the Spanish media are to be believed, Ronaldo has fuelled speculation that he is to leave for Real Madrid, apparently saying: “Everyone knows what I want - in the next two or three days you’ll have something new.”
Ronaldo has previously confessed his desire to play for Madrid, so this statement inclines that news related to a possible transfer will be known in a few days. CLDsport can’t tell you if these Spanish reports are true or not, but if they are it seems to suggest Ronaldo wants to leave.
Following Portugal’s loss to Germany, the 23-year-old said: “In two or three days’ time I will announce my future because my tournament is over.”
He added: “I will speak to United. I will try to reach an agreement and we will see.”
Meanwhile, his current club Manchester United have released a statement on their website to reiterate that Ronaldo is “not for sale”, and the club are “not listening to offers”.
So, in the next few days we should know more. Ronaldo certainly seems to be implying he wants to leave. If he had no interest, he would surely have released a statement saying he will be staying with United - as soon as this speculation first started. Right?
Man Utd, however, are desperate to keep hold of Ronaldo. He’s worth millions in merchandising after all!
