Chelsea Beat Man Utd to Bosingwa Signing

May 12, 2008 by CLDsport

Chelsea BadgeChelsea have completed the signing of Portuguese international right-back Jose Boswingwa for a reported £16.2million fee.

The Porto defender was also a named target of Alex Ferguson’s, but Chelsea have captured Boswingwa. He will join Chelsea after Euro 2008 where he will be appearing for Portugal.

Boswingwa said on Chelsea TV:

“I have friends who are at Chelsea and it’s a club I feel I can improve at and grow as a player. I’ve always had a dream to play in England - I always watched the Premier League as a child, I love the English game and now I’m here I’m going to work to do my best.”

Interestingly, a Portuguese journalist has claimed that Chelsea have overvalued the player - and believes that whoever negotiated the deal done so in Porto’s favour.

The transfer could spell the end of Juliano Belletti’s career with the Blues, after falling out of favour since Avram Grant took over the Chelsea Reigns. Grant has preferred Essien in the full-back position - despite this not being his natural position.

I’m sure Chelsea will enjoy getting one over United by snatching Bosingwa from under their noses. Or, if we are to believe the Portuguese journalist’s analysis, maybe United will be thankful they did not invest so heavily in the player. The proof, they say, will be in the pudding!
