Saturday 5th May: The signing is now official. Flamini has passed a medical and has signed a contract until 2012 with AC Milan.
Flamini leaves Arsenal under the Bosman Ruling, after refusing to sign a new contract at the Emirates. Arsenal will not receive any transfer fee for the 24-year-old midfielder as his contract runs out this summer.
This is not the first time the player has left a club in this way. Following his departure from Marseille to join Arsenal under the same ruling, the Marseille manager was quoted as saying:
“He’s a traitor - this is a beautiful treason.”
Wenger will be disappointed with the midfielder’s decision after desperately attempting to get Flamini to sign a new deal with Arsenal.
The club’s search for a replacement could become even more urgent if Hleb leaves for Inter Milan - as reported by CLDsport, and many others.
