Fabio Capello’s First Game In Charge….
February 6, 2008 by CLDsport
Well, firstly, apologies for neglecting this blog so far! No excuses - well, maybe one ….. other commitments. Not good enough? Sorry!
Anyway, I thought I’d jump straight in and discuss the subject on many people’s minds today I’m sure ……. England v Switzerland.
Watch the game tonight at 8pm on BBC1 for those of you in the UK or BBCSport Website for those of you who are not - unless you are lucky enough to have tickets to the game of course.
So, how is the game going to go? Of course it is only a friendly, but it’s Fabio Capello’s first game in charge and as any new England manager he will be examined in great detail. The performance tonight will, no doubt, determine the support he has or can expect.
If England win in style then Mr Capello can expect immediate support from fans, media and the Football Association alike. But, the wrong result tonight can - and probably will - make his job a damn lot harder!
Winning over the England fans is one of the toughest jobs in the world - especially as a foreigner. Right now I’m sure all England fans are behind him, but by 10pm tonight it may just be a different story.
So, what can we expect tonight?
The expected team tonight is………
David James (Portsmouth), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Matthew Upson (West Ham), Ashley Cole (Chelsea); David Bentley (Blackburn), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Owen Hargreaves (Manchester United), Ashley Young (Aston Villa); Joe Cole (Chelsea), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).
Obviously we can expect Joe Cole to sit slightly behind Wayne Rooney in attack. Cole can wreak havoc in that position if permitted to do so.
Ashley Young will be making only his 2nd appearance for the England senior team - but he has had an impressive season so far with Aston Villa. Can he continue this form with the step up to international level. Well, we will see.
What are your thoughts on tonights match? Any predictions?
