Jose Mourinho Appointed Inter Milan Coach

June 2, 2008 by Kevin Davis

Inter Milan LogoJust as predicted, Jose Mourinho has today been announced as the new manager at Inter Milan, after Roberto Mancini was sacked last week. A press conference has been arranged for 10.30am (UK time) to formally introduce the former Chelsea boss to the media.

A statement on the Inter Milan website said:

‘F.C. Internazionale announces the arrival of Josè Mourinho. The Portuguese coach has signed a three-year contract and will work on a new project with the Italian champions with his collaborators Rui Farias, Silvino and Andrei Villas Boas. Vice coach will be Giuseppe Baresi, whose latest position in a career at Inter was director of the youth academy.

Jose MourinhoThanking Roberto Mancini and his staff for the successes obtained in four seasons in charge of the first team, all of F.C. Internazionale welcomes Josè Mourinho and his collaborators and wishes them the best of luck in their new jobs.

Mancini was sacked despite winning three domestic league titles in succession and it looks as though Mourinho’s main objective will be to improve their performance in European competitions - with the Champions League an important goal.

It’s thought that the Portuguese coach will have plenty of money made available for transfers this summer, and Chelsea stars Lampard and Drogba have been heavily linked with a move to the San Siro to join their former boss.

Inter president Massimo Moratti said:

“I have read lots of names but I have yet to speak with him (Mourinho) about the transfer market. I would like to change very little of this squad which has won so much.”

Another club official stated that the club will sign “few, but good players” this summer.
