Romania Hold France, and Dutch Too Hot For Italians
France opened their Euro 2008 with a hugely disappointing performance, drawing 0-0 with group outsiders Romania. Meanwhile, the Dutch outclassed the Italians, thrashing them 3-0.
Just a quick summary tonight. Excuse? I’m tired, and had a few beers which has resulted in my typing becoming incredibly slow - and hard work. Honesty - always the best policy? Maybe that phrase has been proved to be wrong in my previous sentence. Respectable journalist? Hmmmmm…….
So, CLDsport’s predictions would see France beat Romania, and Italy and the Netherlands play out an exciting 0-0 draw. Ok, we were wrong! Instead, France failed to perform, and the Dutch hammered the Italians!
The France-Romania match is not worth talking about, so I’m not going to bother. Apart from to say, Romania were content with the draw, France were awful. Without Vieira and Henry there attack was non-existent. This resulted in an awful, duill 0-0 scoreline - and a waste of 90 mins of my life watching it.
The Dutch, however, were classy. Far too classy for the Italians. Ruud Van Nistelrooy put them ahead in slightly dubious circumstances just after 25 mins - he looked suspiciously offside to say the least. Wesley Sneijder doubled the lead just 5 mins later after a Dirk Kuyt header.
Keeper Edwin van der Sar then proceeded to keep the Dutch in the lead with some stunning saves, before Giovanni van Bronckhorst headed in to finish Italian hopes ten minutes from the end.
Damn, let’s hope our predictions are more accurate for tomorrow’s matches….. Find out on our Euro 2008 Homepage
