Germany v Turkey: Match Preview

June 25, 2008 by CLDsport

Euro 2008Germany meet Turkey tonight in the first of the Euro 2008 semi-finals. Turkey face a tough task, made worse by their severely weakened team due to injuries and suspensions.

Latest reports suggest that Turkey could be without eight players for tonight’s meeting, and coach Fatih Terim has joked that he may use third-choice keeper Tolga Zengin as an outfield player.

Keeper Volkan is suspended after being sent off in the 3-2 win over the Czech Republic. Tuncay Sanli, Arda Turan and Emre Asik are also forced out due to suspension.

Meanwhile, Nihat Kahveci, Emre Gungor and Servet Cetin are unavailable due to various injuries. Despite the understrength squad, UEFA will not allow Turkey to call up any extra players. It seems rules really are rules!

Germany coach Joachim Low will be back on the sidelines following his touchline ban for the quarter-final win over Portugal.

Low has a fully fit squad to choose from, with Torsten Frings reportedly fit to play, despite suffering from a fractured rib.

Turkey are a dangerous side, and their comebacks against the Czech Republic and Croatia have been nothing short of spectacular. The efficient Germans, however, are a tough task - especially with such a weakened team.

Any predictions?

Germany v Turkey will be live on BBC1 with kick-off at 7.45pm (BST). Or, you can watch live on the BBC website - but only if you are based in the UK I’m afraid.
