The Managerial Merry-Go-Round Continues

June 3, 2008

With Sven Goran Eriksson sacked by Man City, and already employed as Mexico national coach, Mark Hughes has become the Eastland club’s main priority.

With Man City owner Thaksin Shinawatra seemingly desperate to stop the unrest amongst the fans caused by his inexplicable sacking of Eriksson, the club have moved to secure the services of Blackburn boss Hughes. This news has alerted Chelsea, who are looking to replace Avram Grant and have already been linked to their former player.

City have reportedly agreed a compensation package with Rovers, but have not yet made contact with the man himself. A statement on the Blackburn website said:

‘Blackburn Rovers can confirm that they have reached an agreement with Manchester City on compensation terms for Mark Hughes.

As a consequence the club have given Manchester City permission to speak to Mark.’

Chelsea have been linked with every manager under the sun - or at least it seems that way - including Hughes. The news that Rovers are possibly on the verge of securing Hughes has prompted some of Chelsea’s management to urge the club to also make an approach.

If Chelsea hijack City’s plans, then it’s thought that Inter’s former boss Roberto Mancini could be City’s next target - another manager linked to the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

Previous Chelsea boss Avram Grant has also been linked to the Man City job - but it very much seems that Hughes is the man they want, and quickly. Will appointing Mark Hughes appease the fans concerns at the way Shinawatra is running the club?

It’s difficult to predict who will replace Hughes at Blackburn should he leave. Avram Grant maybe? Or Mancini?! It’s getting difficult to keep up……
