Spurs Sign Gomes, and Adebayor Staying At Arsenal
June 27, 2008
Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven keeper Heurelho Gomes to White Hart Lane - surely ending Paul Robinson’s spell at the club.
The deal to bring Gomes to North London is subject to personal terms being agreed, along with a work permit and a medical being passed.
The PSV keeper - who has played for Brazil - will be remembered by Spurs’ fans for the penalty save from a Jermain Jenas spotkick in the UEFA Cup earlier this year. He has also played a big part in winning the Dutch title with the club last season, conceding just 24 goals.
Paul Robinson’s future must now be in serious doubt, with Aston Villa reportedly planning a £4million raid for the ‘former’ England number 1.
Meanwhile, just up the road at Arsenal, Emanuel Adebayor has ended months of speculation regarding his future at the club, saying:
“I have a good contract, we have a good team there and I’m playing for one of the biggest teams in the world. The most important thing for me is to keep on enjoying my football. I’m staying at Arsenal.”
This statement will surely please fans of the club, with AC Milan and Barcelona reportedly interested in a £25million swoop for the Togo striker.
With Flamini having already left the Emirates for Milan, it was important to Wenger to keep hold of another of the clubs biggest stars. The future of Alexander Hleb is still unresolved, with the player strongly linked with a move to Barcelona.
