Scolari to Replace Eriksson?

CLDsport understands that contact HAS been made between Luiz Felipe Scolari with regards to bringing him to Man City to replace Sven Goran Eriksson - who is to be sacked at the end of the season.

Scolari, who was a candidate for the England job before Steve McLaren was hired, is currently in charge of the Portugal national team which may lead to difficulties in holding talks. Portugal are involved in Euro 2008 this summer, and Scolari is relectant to make any decisions regarding his future until after the tournament.

City owner Thaksin Shinawatra is understood to want a quick replacement for the outgoing Eriksson, to prevent further unrest among City fans after they reacted angrily to Eriksson’s imminent sacking.

Scolari has previously been reluctant to uproot his family from Portugal, and has two sons being educated there, however Shinawatra is hoping to tempt him to the Premier League with a huge financial offer - reportedly worth £3.2million a year.

Scolari has won the World Cup with Brazil (in 2006) and has a good managerial record. Shinawatra is hopeful that installing a proven manager will quell City fans anger, and ensure he has their future backing. Will this make a difference though? Will fans trust Shinawatra again after firing Eriksson so cheaply, and after just one season in charge?
