Fulham Beat Birmingham in Relegation Dogfight

Fulham have beaten Birmingham 2-0 at Craven Cottage to pull themselves out of the relegation zone - and leave Birmingham desperately fighting for survival.

Birmingham never looked like winning the all important relegation battle, and created nothing of note. However, Fulham had to wait until the 52nd minute to break the deadlock after a string of first half saves from Birmingham keeper Maik Taylor against his former club.

The impressive Jimmy Bullard’s free kick was headed home by Brian McBride to huge cheers from the Fulham fans - and an almighty sigh of relief.

Fulham’s determination to not sit back with the lead worked wonders, and their second came immediately after Birmingham’s best chance was headed wide by Jaidi.

Erik Nevland broke free on the counter attack to score the crucial second.

The final whistle was met with wild celebrations. Fulham looked as though they were certain to be relegated, but 3 wins in 4 have given Roy Hodgson’s team a fantastic chance of playing Premiership football next season.
