Chelsea Splash The Cash - Deco Signed, Robinho To Follow?

July 2, 2008

Chelsea To Sign Robinho?We have all come accustomed to Chelsea’s spending power in recent times, and this summer is no different. Portuguese midfielder Deco has already been confirmed as a Chelsea player, and reports suggest that Robinho is also set to move to the Blues.

30-year-old Deco has completed his £7.9million move from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge to become Scolari’s first signing since taking over at the club from Avram Grant - who was fired at the end of last season.

Scolari surely made the move an easy one, after coaching the player in Portugal’s Euro 2008 campaign. Despite Deco being the first signing for Scolari, international team mate Jose Bosingwa has already joined the club from Porto for a fee of £16.2million.

Despite Deco’s age, he is still one of the best playmakers in the business, IF he can stay fit. He only managed to start 14 of Barcelona’s matches last season due to injuries. His arrival may also be a further sign that Lampard is on his way to reunite with former boss Mourinho at Inter Milan.

Robinho has now been strongly linked with a move to London, and his agent has claimed to have held talks with the club regarding a possible transfer.

The Brazilian striker - who currently plays for Real Madrid - played an important part in his club’s fortunes last season, scoring 11 times in 32 appearances.

Real are thought to be keen to cash in on the 24-year-old to help fund the possible £65million signing of Cristiano Ronaldo - a situation that has angered Robinho’s agent Vagner Ribeiro. While talking to Spanish sports daily AS, Ribeiro said;

“Neither Robinho nor I like the fact that Real Madrid can use him as part exchange in their bid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo,”

“We don’t like this attitude and we want Madrid to start valuing Robinho because at the moment they’re not.

“Robinho’s priority is to continue at Real Madrid, but he cannot stay in a place in which they don’t recognise his talent and at the moment Real Madrid are not doing that and I’m not talking about money.

“I’m referring to the fact that they are undervaluing him in comparison to Cristiano Ronaldo.”
