The 15-man England squad for the upcoming Stanford Super Series in the Caribbean has been announced. Steve Harmison, who has recently come out of one-day International cricket retirement, has been selected, leading to accusations of being financially motivated (CLDsport: Who in the world is NOT financially motivated anyway?!).

England 85-0 (14.1 ovs) bt South Africa 83 (23 ovs) by 10 wickets.
It may be too early to say that Kevin Pietersen has single-handedly turned around the fortunes of our England cricket team, but today at Trent Bridge it’s fair to say that we performed well enough to beat anybody. Read more

Kevin Pietersen Passes First Test With Apparent Ease
August 12, 2008 by CLDsport · Leave a Comment
Kevin Pietersen could not have asked for a better start to his England captaincy, after a solid England performance resulted in the 6-wicket defeat of South Africa at The Oval.
The 28-year-old’s first match in the captain’s role saw the home team outclass his native country throughout.
Recalls for Harmison and Broad added some much needed power to the bowling lineup, and their inclusions were justified based on this performance. Read more
Pietersen Named As England Captain Following Vaughan’s Resignation
August 4, 2008 by CLDsport · Leave a Comment
Kevin Pieterson has been confirmed as England captain following the surprise resignation of Michael Vaughan on Sunday.
Vaughan - England’s most successful test captain - announced his decision following England’s defeat to South Africa at Edgbaston, which resulted in them being 2-0 down in the series with just one match remaining.
England have won 26 tests out of 51 under Vaughan’s leadership (just under 51%) and is the highest win rate of any former captain. He famously led the team to Ashes victory in 2005 for the first time in 18 years. Read more
England Drop, and Then Throw The Series Away At The Oval

New Zealand (246-9) beat England (245 all out) by 1 wicket.
The final match in this topsy-turvy Natwest One Day series is this Saturday at Lords. The problem is that after today, England cannot win the series as they now trail 2-1 and only have themselves to blame. They were not outplayed in this game but unusually slack and error-prone fielding punctuated their defence of 245 runs and eventually cost them at a packed Brit Oval ground. Read more
New Zealand win in Bristol to level the series

New Zealand (182 all out) beat England (160 all out) by 22 runs.
England’s batsmen failed to chase a seemingly regulation total on a bouncy Bristol wicket as the Natwest series was levelled at 1-1 this afternoon. Paul Collingwood was clearly disappointed that his side, with a good batting line up, couldn’t knock off the 182 the tourists set, with none of his players managing a half century. It was Collingwood’s 34 that ended up as England’s top score, and when he was the 8th man out with the team still needing 30 more, the Read more

England (162 all out from 24 overs) vs New Zealand (127-2 from 19 overs) NO RESULT- GAME ABANDONED.
If things aren’t going your way, the phrase ‘when it rains, it pours’ is often used. The irony of this won’t be lost on Daniel Vettori after today’s second One Day International was finally abandoned due to the weather, as rain interrupted play throughout the day Read more
Pietersen’s Ingenuity Too Much for New Zealand in Durham

England (307-5) beat New Zealand (193 all out) by 114 runs
This report could have been written the second Ian Bell pouched a mis-hit back foot shot from Brendon McCullum in the 9th over of New Zealand’s reply. Set a daunting 308 to win, this was always going to be a tough ask for a side who are desperatly low on confidence and lacking form. The mercurial McCullum was their only real hope and his dismissal for a quickfire 36 Read more
Toothless New Zealand are battered again in the Twenty20

England (127-1) beat New Zealand (123-9) by 9 wickets.
New Zealand’s tour of England is beginning to resemble Daniel Flynn’s mouth- damaged, partially ruined and in need of surgery. The momentum that England generated through the 2-0 test series victory flowed through their veins in Manchester today as they confidently asserted themselves and trounced the depleted Kiwis.
